Every year for the past several years, Songhai Press has renewed its commitment to literacy education by working tirelessly to improve our educational programs and services and by customizing our products. This continuous commitment to improving our business and our partnerships has borne fruit with all of our partners, and with one organization in particular: The Even Start Family Literacy Program.

This fall, we had the honor of publishing the first anthology of writing from Even Start Family Literacy Program participants who have written, illustrated, and published books through the Songhai Press Young Publishers Program. The Even Start Family Literacy Program Anthology of Writing: 2000-2004 includes all of the books and cover illustrations created by Even Start families since 2000.

As part of this initiative, each year the School District of Philadelphia purchases both Spanish and English versions of the Songhai Press Corporation publication, My First Week of School. This publication is provided to each child entering kindergarten within the district.

We are proud to say that, for the past three years, Songhai Press has been the distributing publisher of the Philadelphia School District’s Core Curriculum Guides. Currently, Songhai Press is responsible for the design, layout, editing, production, and distribution of the core guides for Literacy, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Music,Art, and ESOL, as well as for the district’s Office of Specialized Services guide to the curriculum.
